Our Community Provides Many Ways to Support Each Other in addressing Loneliness, Food Insecurity and Housing Instability

Supports During Extreme Heat

For individuals on Ontario Works, several programs are offered through Region of Waterloo Community Services that aim to help prevent and reduce the risk of heat-related illness during episodes of extreme heat.

Emergency Food Hamper Program

The central distribution hub connecting individuals to local community food pantries. Neighbours can find food assistance map locations across Kitchener-Waterloo.

Community Gardens Network

A network of over 100 community gardens across K-W that provides low-income residents or community groups with plots to grow their own fresh produce.

Help Paying Rent

Financial assistance for people receiving OW or ODSP to prevent eviction, manage rental arrears, or cover moving costs and emergency storage.

Emergency Shelters & Transitional Housing

Centralized access for individuals experiencing homelessness or at immediate risk. Includes access to regional emergency shelters and street outreach teams.

Community Welcome Spaces

The Region operates dedicated Welcome Spaces at major administrative buildings (including 99 Regina St. S. in Waterloo and 20 Weber St. E. in Kitchener).
