This year’s Earth Day cleanup was a powerful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together with a shared purpose.

Residents, volunteers, and local families joined forces with Waterloo Wayside and the MacGregor Albert Community Association (MACA) to help clean and refresh the spaces we all enjoy every day. We were also grateful to have volunteers from the University of Waterloo’s Alpha Omicron Pi and Sigma Chi to come out and lend a hand, bringing great energy and teamwork to the event. From streets and parking lots to nearby parks and green spaces, everyone worked together collecting litter, sorting recyclables, and giving our neighbourhood a cleaner, brighter look heading into spring.

What started as a few hours of cleanup turned into something much bigger… a day filled with teamwork, connection, and community pride. Neighbours met neighbours, families worked side by side, and people of all ages stepped up to make a visible difference in Waterloo.
Thanks to everyone who participated; bags of trash were removed from our shared spaces, helping create a healthier and more welcoming environment for everyone. Events like this show that even small actions can have a lasting impact when a community works together.

Together, we’re helping build a cleaner, greener Waterloo, not just on Earth Day, but every day.
